Friday mixtape

First and last

So, this week it was cassette albums, with just me (so far), with Bruce Springsteen and James Last. Next week is CDs, and I’m hoping for a good crop of guest posts. (That’s a reminder folks.)

Graeme Bell, father of Aussie jazz.

The wonderful Village Dance Radio celebrates Johnny ‘Hammond’ Smith – Gambler’s Life. Musik Kurier spins some fantastic disco. From Go to Whoa shares some of the new Cat Power album. Art Decade opens the hydrants for my man Isaac Hayes. Brookyn Vegan grooves to Antibalas.

  1. As I was going through various blogs, I found this and had to comment. I really like how you do your blog. It’s very nice and thought out.

I’m Cheryl Smith and was Johnny’s wife at the time he passed. It’s always nice to see commentary and gratitude given to him in recognition of his talent. During his illness he continued recording and now I’m in the process of digitizing his masters and will be putting out a CD around April of next year. If you’d like, you can keep track of the progress of the project at http://www.facebook.com/JohnnyHammondSmithHisTimeIsNow?ref=hl
Thanks for all that you do.
