Friday the thirteenth mixtape

First and last etc

OK, to reiterate: … you can read Radiator on Stokes’s independent record stores and buying CDs for their bonus tracksTNC on Santa Barbara’s independent record stores and buying leather-homo metalJams on independent record (and model) stores in Elm Park and buying a glam classicRustyFruitJuice on why he became a dope fiend rent boy, and me on the music of the black diaspora, as well as Carl asking what you do when songs become politically incorrect. Kind of blurred the first and last CDs and first and last LPs, but that’s OK. Let’s give CDs and LPs another few days. Any more takers? Then we can move on to conclude the series with first and last mp3s in a week or so. Meanwhile, what else?

Also

The Shirazists play rain songs, as it is doing nothing but raining in these sceptred isles. Can you think of any better ones?

Entdinglichung explores the problem of bohemian long-hairs in the Trotskyist movement, accompanied by George Perle.

Cover Lay Down does Steve Earle. Star Maker Machine is doing Elvis covers, of which my favourite is probably Waylon Jennings and Jessi Colter’s “Suspicious Minds”.

27 Leggies does a variety of Reeds. (Is there a suitable collective noun?)

Chuck does outernational riddims.

The Rising Storm goes from Doc Watson (who I celebrated here) to Pete Seeger to someone I’ve never heard of but is wonderful, Ellen McIlwaine.
