Friday mixtape

Some Lost, Some Found

… is back after a hiatus. Here’s Indie Disco Kisses summer songs, Car Seat Headrest, and Burger Records.

The House That Trane Built

A great Coltrane-centric jazz blog on Tumblr.

Here’s a trio of trois, an hour of Zornism live from earlier this year: Shanir Ezra Blumenkranz trio of Abraxas (beautiful, groovy, oriental, then irritatingly edging into freneticism about six minutes in), Aleph Trio featuring John Zorn himself (quite straight post-bop jazz, which is lovely when it finally calms down and again goes a little orientalist and noir at around 22 minutes), then Secret Chiefs 3 (actually a sextet not a trio, strictly speaking, performing sufi thrash that edges in and out of enjoyability).

Mining the Audio Motherload

And here is a very different “Viet Cong Blues”, with Junior Wells on vocals and Buddy Guy’s guitar: seriously deep late modern blues.
